Artist Statement
My work is an effort to visually communicate the emotional experiences of people with mental illness or emotional adversity. The paintings make use of a variety of painting techniques; pallet knives, rubber brushes, gold leaf, gold or metallic paint, charcoal, oil paint, spray paint, a wide variety of mediums, and of course traditional brush rendering. I like to experiment constantly with whatever materials are appropriate for the image and information in mind. I am interested in thought disorders, mood diorders and the autism spectrum as well as criminology, socio-economic influence, and other sociological issues. Each work is a competition between harmony and dissonance, control and chaos, premeditation and improvisation. The works form as a collision of many competing processes.
